When the good folks at the EMP (Experience Music Project) here in Seattle asked me if I'd be up for doing some Elvis songs at an event they were throwing honoring some early photographs of the
King, I jumped at the chance. I thought it would be a blast to rock some early Elvis tunes for whoever decided to show up. Little did I know just how much fun it would be. They hooked me up with
some great players, key among them was the amazing Mr. Dave Keenan, who's guitar playing really MAKES this recording pop, and I could tell from the first time we practiced that this was going to
be a special gig. The guys in the band must of thought the people at the EMP were crazy for putting me in the lead role though as I walked in to that first rehearsal. First of all, I had grown a
big bushy beard while my wife was pregnant with our first kid and I hadn't gotten around to shaving it yet, so I definitely didn't look the part. But as we sat down and got into the material, my
love of the music was obvious and he hit it off right away. Plus, this gig gave me the excuse I needed to finally shave that nasty beard! This recording documents a brief moment in time. A good
time it was and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed doing it.
Recorded in late January, 2001 at the EMP in Seattle WA.
